Many Things continue to be happening in an around Colorado associated with Medical Marijuana. Physicians, health care professionals. law enforcement, and the judicial branch are receiving some specialized volunteer education with various meetings, seminars, and discussion gatherings.

Over 200 doctors throughout the state were invited to participate in a Americans for Safe Access meeting to delve into the current research and understanding of Cannabinoids. Having access to literally thousands of peer reviewed research papers, Matt Schnur has narrowed the field to over 300 papers which have been put on a complimentary Compact Disc, regularly available at meetings. These CDs have been instrumental in helping education patients and health care professionals, alike. Starting in 2007, we were able to effectively emulate the San Francisco Patients Cooperative for legal patients and caregivers who are registered with the Colorado Department of Health's Medical Marijuana Registry.
"One LOVE, People Get Ready" Events were about EMPOWERMENT, a gathering of like minded individuals. It is designed to be a 'safe area' designed on the time honored Farmers Market concept. There were four events before becoming so popular that we are currently unable to find a home for these events.

It was designed as an alternative to medicating in the 'closet', a chance for patients to get out, socialize and discuss that which is important to them in a regularly available open forum. It was a chance for empowered patients to show off their crafts &/or abilities. Examples of encounters that can occur within the framework of "One LOVE, People Get Ready" : MMJ Patient "Joe" makes available his homemade hemp jewelry, MMJ Caregiver "Lisa" brings out some of her home cooked delicacy's, medicated or otherwise. Patient "Ralph" meets with caregiver "Seth" and they speak of caregiving options discretely. MMJ Patient "Silvio" brings his folk guitar and plays a tune or two for some others in attendance. It is a FREE FORM ENVIRONMENT, with no financial interest associated with any party. And, if barter occurs, or if relationships develop, so be it. Patients can meet patients, patients can meet caregivers, and speak discretely within the framework of a safe and legal environment.

In June, 2006 a core group of patients & caregivers traveled to San Francisco as guests of Americans for Safe Access. During this history making journey, while visiting 10 Bay Area dispensaries, something special happened. We encountered one standout facility, known as the San Francisco Patients Cooperative. This amazing 'safehouse' facility and attached patient garden patio is a place where California medical marijuana patients are made to feel 'at home' & socialize. It is a literal destination for both patients and caregivers, rather than a place to stop and get medicine.

Throughout the day, patrons were under no pressure to leave, spending the time talking, enjoying folk guitar entertainment, attending regular mmj educational seminars, developing patient/caregiver camaraderie, and an overall friendly atmosphere of positive opportunity's. It can easily be described as one of the proud primary 'homes' of the California Medical Marijuana Movement.

Colorado does not currently have a "HOME for it's medical marijuana movement. Amendment 20 was passed as our state constitutional right after being enacted in 2000. I am told, It is hard for a movement to organize without one......a few, or many. the evolution of this event has ballooned to a second year of existence, with well over 100 legal participants to these events, now housed at the Oriental Theater. Benefit Party
As with past legal seminars in Aspen, Chris and Gerry Goldstein have graciously offered to host a special Saturday night benefit party for the attendees at their lovely home in Aspen. Chef Chris Lanter from Cache Cache (a popular Aspen restaurant RECENT CACHE CACHE REVIEW) ? catered the party. Both medicated and non-medicated desserts were SPECTACULAR!!


An Afternoon Cookout at Owl Farm, the Legendary Home of Hunter S. Thompson
On Sunday afternoon, June 10, following the completion of the NORML Aspen Legal Seminar, Hunter Thompson?s widow, Anita Thompson, kindly invited the seminar attendees out to the fabled Owl Farm in Woody Creek to spend the afternoon.

According to Anita Thompson Anita's OWL FARM BLOG, Hunter admired the NORML lawyers perhaps as much as most of us admired him, and Anita is opening her home to the NLC as an expression of this respect and appreciation.

"We'll provide hot dogs and hamburgers and spend the afternoon enjoying the beautiful mountain ranch and breathtaking scenery where Hunter lived and worked for most of his life."

Hunter S. Thompson, the celebrated writer and journalist, was a longtime NORML Advisory Board member and supporter, who first joined the Advisory Board in 1973, and served until the time of his death in 2005.

Interested folks stopped by the Woody Creek Tavern, where Hunter spent lots of time over the years, for a beer and some local color, on the way to Owl Farm, which is just a short distance away.

Zheng Chi or "Righteous Chi" is the Chi that is released to eliminate PAIN through the needles of Chinese Acupuncture, an effort that seems to be so much a regular part of my life, as I suffer with my Fibromyalgia flare ups! An entire team of doctors regularly helps me keep a better focus on quality of life, and to minimize the severe pain which plagues me. Medical marijuana is only one of the components for relief.
